‘Edited in a misleading manner’
The lawsuit comes after the former US president threatened to take CBS to court last week and asked the outlet to release the unedited transcript of Harris’ interview.
The new lawsuit claims, “CBS and the producers of 60 Minutes intentionally misled the public by airing and posting a carefully, misleadingly edited interview and transcript while choosing to release other portions online.” The purpose of such manipulative editing was to mislead voters about Kamala’s lack of abilities. , intelligence, and appeal.”
CBS rejected the claims
The lawsuit claims the editing was intended to hide Harris’ shortcomings and mislead viewers. In response to the lawsuit, a CBS spokesperson said Trump’s allegations are baseless and that the network did not alter the interview to mislead the public. According to The Hill newspaper, the American news outlet stressed that 60 Minutes aimed to present the interviews accurately and fairly.
CBS also noted that it is standard practice for news outlets to edit interviews for clarity and time constraints. The lawsuit comes just days before the November 5 presidential election, where Trump is currently leading in the polls against Harris. Trump’s legal filing demands a jury trial and compensation for the network’s continued lies and misleading actions.
Trump has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with CBS for several weeks, even threatening to revoke the network’s broadcast license if he wins the election. He initially agreed to an interview with 60 Minutes, but later backed out after learning that it would involve fact-checking.
