Muslim woman harassed in Bengaluru to sit with Hindu man

In a shocking case of moral policing, a young Muslim woman was harassed by a group of individuals in a park in Bengaluru to be seen with a Hindu male partner.

The incident came to light after the video of 2 minutes -14 -second went viral on social media on Tuesday. The police is currently confirming the details of the incident.

In the video, one of the men, who appears recording the couple, officially asks the young woman to hand over to her burqa and is seen threatening her.

In the video, the group has been approached by the couple and the woman is asked her name. When she tries to hide behind the youth, she questions her, saying that she is a Muslim and a Hindu – how can they sit together?

The young answers that they are friends. One of the men of the group claims that they are more than friends and say they have complete video as evidence.

The man keeps beating the girl, demanding that she comes to her and reveals her name as she is calling other members of her group to come to the spot. She repeatedly insists that she tells her name.

He further says, “If you want to do all this, do it without wearing a burqa. He belongs to our (Muslim) community. Give me his burqa,” he asks.

When the woman holds her friend’s hand and tries to leave, the man chases them and insists that he hands over to the burqa before leaving.

He continues to hurt him, saying, “What are you for the antics? You want to hold his hand? Do you have any respect for the burqa? I want you to hand over it,” he says insisting.

“You go to hell – we don’t care. First take off the burqa, then go,” the man heard him saying this.

The woman pleads not to create an issue with them. However, the man accuses him, claiming that he had been looking at him since entering a hotel. She questions her, asking how she can behave as a Muslim.

On 11 April, the Karnataka Police arrested four persons, including a minor, in the case of moral policing reported under the limits of the lunar layout police station in Bangalore.

The accused allegedly encountered a Muslim woman to speak with a youth from another community. He abused her orally and attempted to assault her.

DCP (West) S. Girish S, “Within the lunar layout police station limits, a boy and a girl were sitting on a bike in front of a park. Seeing them, a group of four men approached and started questioning them. The woman was wearing a burqa.”

The DCP said, “The accused questioned her as to why she was and she had informed her family. Based on the woman’s complaint, we registered a case and arrested four accused. We have taken the minor into custody.”

Police sources said that the young Muslim woman built her ground and faced the group, questioned her intervention in her personal matters. She allegedly told her that the person she was talking to was her classmate and asked why she should give her family contact information. His family later filed a police complaint.
