Study findings:
This study was conducted on 80 colon cancer patients. It was observed that they contained high levels of bioactive lipids which are formed when the seed oil is broken down. The study looked at 81 tumor samples from people aged 30 to 85 and concluded that the high lipid content in their cancerous tumors was due to the seed oil.

The seed oil contains omega-6 and polyunsaturated fatty acids, and studies are ongoing to understand their connection to diabetes and heart disease. According to the research paper, chronic inflammation caused by excessive consumption of seed oil may increase the development and progression of cancer. “We show that the lipidomic profile of CRC tumors displays a distinct pro-inflammatory bias with a deficiency of resolving mediators secondary to defective lipid class switching. “These observations pave the way for ‘resolution medicine,’ a new therapeutic approach to induce or deliver resolvins to reduce the chronic inflammation that drives cancer development and progression,” the study statement said.
