The year was 1950. John Mathai was the Finance Minister of India then. The country’s budget was to be presented. All the preparations were almost complete. Then the news of the budget being leaked came. Due to this mistake, John Mathai had to answer.

This changed the tradition of printing the budget. Until that year, the budget was printed in Manoranjan Bhavan. After this incident, Minto Road in New Delhi was raided. In 1980, the printing place was changed once again and the budget started being printed in the basement of North Block.

Since then the budget has grown a lot. Now after the Halwa ceremony the process of printing the budget begins. Till this starts the Ministry of Home Affairs is closed by involving all the officials and support in the printing.
