Cross-border order pickup declines in small Montana community

A time-matched service, which helps Canadians to avoid international shipping charges, has seen a dramatic decline in customers since a trade war between Canada and the US started.

Amy Lindskog has owned in border storage for 16 years. Sweetgrass, Mont., The feature receives and keeps the package for its customers. Lindskog says that 100 percent of their customers are Canadians.

In contrast, about an hour north of the small border community, some letbridge business customers are reported to increase traffic because the so -called “buy Canadian” movement began. Penny Waris, co-owner of analog books in the city’s downtown core, says his store has seen 25 percent more transactions in the last three months than last year.

“We are thinking that people are really looking at shopping,” said the heir. “We are thinking that they have made an option not to shop on Amazon and want to make local shopping. We are getting a lot of online orders, and we are getting a lot of phone calls for people looking to buy books.”

Waris says that it has been used in border storage in the past.


“We use that border service, and I have to say, we try to use it less,” said the heir. “If we do not need to bring things from the United States, it is better.”

Back to Sweetgrass, Lindskog hopes that his customer’s decline is not permanent and customers will start using in border storage again.

“I am here to help Canadian people,” Lindskog said. “I want to do anything that I can help and answer whatever questions I can. If I can make things easy, I will do this. This is what I have always done and will continue to do so.”
