Rishi Sunak suffered a big defeat. YouTuber Nico Omilana made fun of him by drawing a big “L” sign behind him

YouTuber Nico Omilana with the “L” sign behind Rishi Sunak

Rishi Sunak suffered a huge defeat in the U.K. elections. This message was further reinforced by a YouTube star who stood behind him and held a piece of paper with a big letter “L” written on it while the outgoing prime minister was giving a speech thanking his voters.

The prank, which called Mr Sunak a “loser”, was claimed by YouTuber Nico Omilana. “Bye Rishi, hold this L,” the YouTuber, who has 7.49 million followers, wrote on X.

Nico, who is known for his various pranks online, can be seen walking behind the former PM to ensure his gesture is caught on camera, as the Conservative leader conceded the election to Labour.

Nico managed to get on stage and stand behind the Tory leader, as he stands as an independent candidate in Sunak’s Yorkshire seat, which the outgoing prime minister has retained.

Last month, the famous prankster said in a video posted on X that he plans to “completely remove” Britain’s current Prime Minister Rishi Sunak from politics.

There was more misery to come for the 44-year-old leader.

The cartoon, posted by x user @Cartoon4sale, shows Mr Sunak exiting the “0” at 10 Downing Street. It suggests a decline in Mr Sunak’s power and popularity and mocks his misfortune.

Shortly before Mr Sunak conceded defeat, Irish low-cost airline Ryanair posted on its X account: “Don’t worry @RishiSunak we have a seat for you”. The post has since been viewed 3.9 million times.

The Conservative Party led by Mr Sunak suffered a landslide defeat after 14 years in government, ending his prime ministership just 20 months after he was sworn in amid political turmoil within the party.

Mr Sunak saw a record number of his top cabinet members lose their seats, including Defence Secretary Grant Shapps and Leader of the House of Commons Penny Mordaunt.

Keir Starmer has promised to “rebuild Britain” as he takes over as Britain’s new prime minister after his left-wing Labour Party won a landslide general election victory.

‘I heard your anger, your disappointment’: Sunak takes responsibility for election defeat, resigns as PM
Outgoing British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak He stepped down from his role as Prime Minister on Friday morning, departing Buckingham Palace after handing in his resignation. His departure from 10 Downing Street came after he delivered his valedictory speech as Prime Minister following the election defeat to the Labour Party.
This marks the return of Labour to power after a gap of 14 years. Sunak’s resignation was formally accepted by King Charles III during his last meeting at the palace. The outgoing Prime Minister arrived at the palace in an official government vehicle and left in a private car.
The United Kingdom held a general election on Thursday, where citizens voted to elect 650 members of Parliament who will represent them for the upcoming five-year term. Counting is almost complete, with the Labour Party, led by keir starmerhas won at least 400 parliamentary seats.
The Conservative Party, which has governed the country for more than a decade under five different prime ministers, is projected to see its representation in the 650-seat House of Commons fall to about 130 seats. The result would be the worst electoral performance in the party’s 200-year history, potentially sending the Tories into a tailspin.
In his farewell speech, Sunak accepted responsibility for the Conservative Party’s defeat in the general election and apologised to voters and his colleagues who lost their seats. Despite the disappointing results, Sunak insisted that he had given his best during his 20-month tenure.
“I would first like to say I am sorry. I have given my very best to this job, but you have sent a clear signal that the government of the United Kingdom needs to change,” Sunak said.
“Your decision is the only one that matters. I have heard your anger, your disappointment, and I take responsibility for this defeat… Following this result, I will resign as party leader, not immediately, but once formal arrangements have been made to select my successor,” Sunak said.
Sunak announced he would resign as party leader once formal arrangements were made to choose his successor. He acknowledged that rebuilding work was needed within the Conservative Party as it took on the crucial role of the new opposition in parliament.
The outgoing leader also highlighted some of his key achievements during his time as Prime Minister, including reducing inflation and making the UK “safer, stronger and more secure”.
Looking to the future, Sunak welcomed his successor Sir Keir Starmer to the crucial role of prime minister in an increasingly volatile world. Despite being political adversaries, Sunak expressed his respect for Starmer and described him as “a decent, public-spirited man”.
“Although he has been my political rival, Sir Keir Starmer will soon be our prime minister. His successes in that position will be our successes and I wish him and his family all the best,” Sunak said.
“Whatever our disagreements may be in this campaign, he is a decent, public-spirited man whom I respect. He and his family deserve our best understanding as they make a big transition to their new life behind these doors,” he said.
He wished Starmer and his family all the best as they embark on the important transition to their new life at 10 Downing Street.
Concluding his speech, Sunak expressed his gratitude to his team, his wife and his children for the sacrifices they made to enable him to serve the country. He reflected on the remarkable journey of his grandparents, who came to Britain with very little money, and how he was able to become Prime Minister two generations later and watch his two young daughters light Diwali candles on the steps of Downing Street.
Sunak stressed the importance of staying true to British values of kindness, decency and tolerance, even in difficult days.
“One of the most remarkable things about Britain is how extraordinary it is that I could become prime minister two generations after my grandparents came here with very little money and I could see my two little daughters lighting Diwali candles on the steps of Downing Street. We must hold on to this idea of who we are,” he stressed.
“That attitude of kindness, decency and tolerance that has always been the British way. This is a difficult day, after many difficult days. But I leave this position having had the honour of being your Prime Minister. This is the best country in the world and it is entirely thanks to you, the British people, who are the real source of all our achievements, our strength and our greatness,” Sunak concluded.

In a dig at Rishi Sunak, whose party lost the UK election, European airline Ryanair said in a post on X that it had found a “seat” for the outgoing British prime minister.

However, Labour Party leader Keir Starmer has secured the seat of the next Prime Minister with a landslide victory. TOAST WARS: Treat vendor accused of wrongdoing after being kicked out of Richmond Night Market – B.C.

A Metro Vancouver sweets vendor is upset he was removed from a popular night market and replaced with a similar business.

Tochi Dessert makes Mochi French Toast, a delicious dish consisting of Hong Kong-style French toast filled with mochi, a chewy Japanese dessert made from rice flour.

Co-owner Picard Yiu claims the company was the first to bring the gift to B.C., and it drew crowds during two successful seasons at the Richmond Night Market.

Canada’s largest outdoor market opens for summer season

“It’s a really popular spot for Asian foods and the Asian demographic,” he said.

“We were really successful, we attracted a lot of attention and traffic, we went viral online and also in Greater Vancouver.”

The essential email for the day’s top news stories from Canada and around the world.

But when the company applied for its spot for the 2024 season, Yiu said it was rejected without any explanation.

This forced him to change his stance and sell these dishes at events in the area.

“At that point, we were completely based out of the Richmond Night Market. We invested the money we made into our beloved food truck,” he said.

“It was definitely a big change for us and we had to invest a lot of money in trucks … a huge disruption.”

Richmond Night Market named ‘Best Asian Food in North America’ by The New York Times

More troubling for the young entrepreneurs is that another business — one that sells cobbler French toast — has taken their spot.

“They were given a prominent position… and the product and branding have an undeniable similarity to our branding,” he said.

The Richmond Night Market told Global News it did not renew Tochi’s application because the business did not comply with its rules and guidelines.

As far as the new cobbler French toast stands, the market said it’s leaving it up to the vendors to decide what to sell.

Yiu said the situation has been a learning experience for him, and he and his partners are now focusing on their future under a new business model.

But this rejection has left sweet makers with a bitter taste in their mouths.

“I think after our two successful years, as well as the traffic and attention that the Richmond Night Market was getting … they saw that, hey, this is a great original idea and it would be really great if they did it themselves.”

Mirzapur 3 Review: Ali Fazal, Pankaj Tripathi return with more bloodshed, less spark | Web Series

Mirzapur 3 Review: After four years, the third season of Mirzapur is back with Ali Fazal and Pankaj Tripathi reprising the roles of Guddu Bhaiya and Kaleen Bhaiya respectively. This time, the power card has been shuffled, with bloodshed and gore playing the main role. However, barring a few respite moments, everything in Mirzapur 3 is refreshing and without any suspense. Read this also: Upcoming web series in July 2024: Mirzapur 3, Showtime, Pill, Tribhuvan Mishra and many new shows

This season is directed by Gurmeet Singh and Anand Iyer.

It can be described as a violent tale of revenge that offers quiet moments of beauty as well as visceral thrills. But was the wait worth it?

The show falls short in many areas such as a weak storyline, too many main characters and unpredictable main plot points. At the same time, it manages to keep the audience engaged with excellent acting and an interesting first half.

Mirzapur can be credited for introducing violence, bloodshed and gore to the Indian OTT space. And the third season is definitely taking it a notch higher.

At its core, Mirzapur is a tale of Hindi violence intertwined with the world of Indian politics and law enforcement. It is a snapshot of power games, sex, drugs, death, conflicted relationships and betrayal.

Show it anyway.

what works

The show begins from where the second season ended. It shows Guddu Bhaiya (Ali Fazal) and Golu (Shweta Tripathi Sharma) enjoying power after taking over the throne of Mirzapur. Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) is seen mourning the death of his son (Munna, played by Divyendu) after escaping death himself.

The directors – Gurmeet Singh and Anand Iyer – have made sure to use the locations to make it more realistic. Several scenes have been used to show the changing story, such as the breaking of Kaleen Bhaiya’s statue, which signifies taking control of Mirzapur, and Madhuri (Isha Talwar) coming forward to light her husband Munna’s pyre.

Show it anyway.

In fact, they have used detailed graphics to explain the expanded map of the Mirzapur universe and the bloodshed that took place in eastern Uttar Pradesh, northern Bihar and Nepal.

Talking about the performances, Ali Fazal, Shweta Tripathi Sharma and Anjum Sharma have given a wonderful performance as Guddu, Golu and Sharad respectively. Their tension, struggle and revenge have been conveyed to the audience.

Show it anyway.

This time, Anjum and Vijay Verma have brought their versatility into the spotlight by showcasing layers of dark ambitions and emotional vulnerabilities. Harshita Gaur, Rajesh Telling and Sheeba Chaddha have done a good job supporting the show and elevating a flat screenplay with their emotional performances. When it comes to bloodshed and variety, the third season checks all the boxes. The twists and turns are interesting.

What doesn’t work?

The current season has several new characters along with the previous ones, and connecting all the dots is a challenge. Perhaps this is where a slower pace of the plot would have helped move the story forward.

Isha Talwar has played the role of Chief Minister Madhuri very well. However, there were some moments when her acting seemed weak for a strong character. Some scenes remind you of the world of Game of Thrones. The shock value is intact and might make you scream.

Show it anyway.

For the last four years, many Mirzapur fans have been waiting for the showdown between Kaleen Bhaiya and Guddu Bhaiya. But it did not happen. Throughout the season, except for the last 15 minutes, it seems like actor Pankaj Tripathi is stepping back from the gangster world and letting the younger generation and the new rivalry take over.

Show it anyway.

Rasika Dugal once again delivers a strong performance as Beena Tripathi, but her character feels incomplete. She shines in the screen time she is given, whether it is plotting again or her vulnerability as a mother in a few scenes. After a brilliant entry in the second season, Priyanshu Painyuli aka Robin also seems underutilised this time.

Show it anyway.

The finale doesn’t have any fireworks, leaving one wondering if this is what we were getting ready for. Perhaps the team leaned a little too much into the relentless rhythm, ruining the promise of the world they had created and leaving a few loose ends. And yet, you forgive, because it promises a fun binge-watching experience, best enjoyed with your mates.

all together

The stakes are high. The risks are high. There is a lot of drama. But there is less glitz. Despite the predictable storyline, the third season is worth watching because of the performances, direction and gory horror moments. Produced by Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur Season 3 is now streaming on Prime Video India.

Manitoba parents ‘helpless’ as their child can’t get public health-care coverage – Winnipeg

A young family of three has reached a dead end in Manitoba’s health-care system.

Irene Baek of South Korea and Pengyu Xi of China both studied and worked in the province, but moved to South Korea in recent years to care for Baek’s ailing mother.

They stayed there longer than expected because of the pandemic.

A few months before leaving Manitoba, they were granted permanent residence (PR) cards, which they had already applied for — and learned they were expecting Jaden, who was born in South Korea.

“When we applied for our PR cards, we didn’t have Jaden,” Beck said. So, when they received the cards, “he wasn’t even on the application. So now we’re back with our PR cards, but he’s on a visitor status.”

Story continues below advertisement

Two-year-old Jaden’s visitor status means he can’t be added as a dependent on his parents’ health insurance.

Beck said this surprised her and Shi, since they knew immigrants on work permits could ensure public health care for their children.

“I’m really upset, but I don’t know what I can do. That’s the way the system is. And I didn’t expect this, you know? Before I came here, I really didn’t think this was a challenge we would have to face,” she said.

Beck says it will take a year and a half for Jaden to become a permanent resident, which is a scary thought to him.

“It feels difficult for us to start life here now, because we know that our child has not got any health benefit. So it feels really difficult,” she said.

The latest health and medical news will be sent to you by email every Sunday.

In the meantime, he has been advised to take private insurance.

“I felt so helpless there. And I thought maybe there was a better way or something, but no,” she said.

Tim MacIsaac, who kept Beck in his home while she was at school and considers her his daughter, says the situation has put Beck’s family in a precarious position.

“Obviously, if they don’t have the health coverage and the care that they need, that’s going to be a huge expense for them,” he said.

Story continues below advertisement

“They couldn’t afford to take a huge hit financially because they needed health care and didn’t have health coverage … the way all of us do.”

“Paying for private insurance doesn’t cover many illnesses. It usually only covers emergencies. So families have to pay out of pocket for even very simple medical ailments,” said Diwa Marcelino, co-chair of Health Care for All in Manitoba.

But, it seems like this is the only option for Beck’s young family.

“I guess we can just wait and see if we can go through private insurance, and hope she doesn’t get too sick in the meantime. And hopefully maybe someone can hear this and make a difference in the future for people who are facing the same situation as us,” he said.

Marcelino said the family’s situation isn’t surprising — but still shocking for immigrant families.

“I see this over and over again, especially for families who come at different times, where the mother or father comes separately from the other children. The wait is unacceptable, and the gaps in health care are also unacceptable,” he said.

“Everyone who comes to Manitoba should have access to public health care.”

A federal spokesperson said each province gets to decide what the minimum requirements are for a person to receive benefits under its health insurance plan.

Story continues below advertisement

Global News contacted the Manitoba government for comment but did not receive a response by deadline.

“I want Jaden to call this place his home, too, because we’ve lived here for 13 years, right. For them (to say) ‘Your child’s status here is a visitor,’ it makes me feel like they’re pushing him away and telling him this place isn’t his,” Beck said. “That makes me very sad.”
